Can I take Orbit through airport security?
Yes. Orbit is a small Bluetooth device with a coin or small rechargeable battery, so you can travel with it and take it through airport security.
Hand luggage or checked luggage? Both are fine. Aviation rules (for example the US FAA) allow Bluetooth trackers in checked bags when the battery has no more than 0.3 g of lithium (coin batteries) or 2.7 Wh (rechargeable). Orbit is well below these limits, so you can leave it switched on, for example to track your suitcase:
- Orbit Keys: one CR2025, about 0.05 g of lithium
- Orbit Velo: two CR2032, about 0.07 g of lithium each
- Orbit Glasses: a tiny rechargeable battery, about 0.06 Wh
- Orbit Card: a thin built-in battery, far below the limits
Spare coin batteries (not fitted in an Orbit) must go in your hand luggage, in their packaging or with the contacts taped.
Airlines can have their own rules, so check with yours if you're unsure.
