My bike has been stolen: using Orbit Velo to find it
- Open Find My > Items and select your Orbit Velo to see its last location.
- Turn on Lost Mode so you're notified when it's found by the Find My network. See Lost Mode.
- Report the theft to the police and share the location with them.
- Don't try to recover your bike on your own. Let the police handle it.
Why a thief can't just switch it off: Orbit Velo is mounted with the button facing the frame, so the button can't be pressed without unbolting it.
Why it may not update straight away: Orbit Velo reports its location only when an Apple device passes nearby, so updates are less frequent in quiet or remote places.
Will the thief get an alert? Possibly. If the thief has an iPhone, Apple may warn them that an unknown Find My item is travelling with them, and they can make it play a sound. This is Apple's anti-stalking protection and can't be turned off. They can't stop the tracking that way: to switch off or remove Orbit Velo they need the security key, because the button faces the frame. Many thieves will simply abandon a bike once they know it's tracked.
